Persisted Vision inaugural show at Stairwell Gallery

January sort of got away from me, but in a good way as last month saw the first ever public showing of my work at the Stairwell Gallery at Lake Oswego Public Library. My thanks to both the library for providing the opportunity, and to Todd Feinman, Reference Librarian, for his confidence in me, and support in pulling it all together. The show featured a collection of work, “Persisted Vision” as the name implies, stubbornly photographed in fits and spurts over the last decade, 2012-2022, with selected images representing a coalescence of form and style I continue to synthesize.

At the time, I was engaged in my career and family, and I had no complaints, but I was feeling a tension in me to pick-up a camera and shoot something meaningful. By that time, it was thirty years since I had last done anything serious on a creative scale, so I had been mulling over concepts I wanted to approach.

There was also some not insignificant emotional turmoil in me then, because when I abandoned my photography aspirations back in the 1980s, I made a promise to myself to get back to it someday. As it turned out then, I was, for all practical purposes, naรฏve about what that really meant yet, I persevered. The result comes in the form of this collection, thirty-six pieces of photography, both landscape and architectural subject matter, shot mostly in the Pacific Northwest, but also Mediterranean.

My thanks go out to the people who put up with, and supported me during the making of these images. My wife Lesli, simply is my best friend, my love. My son Julian spent much time walking, hiking, riding along, and a lot of just plain old waiting around for me to finish shooting, without even the slightest waver in his admiration for my mission. It is a special memory, I will forever reflect on with a smile.

In any lengthy creative process there is a need to frequently hear the spontaneous utterance of words that remind the maker inside of the essential meaning found in their work. Thank you to the family and friends, even acquaintances, too many to list, who offered words of feedback and encouragement, mostly unknowingly, sometimes unrecognized. I am grateful for you. You are beautiful.

Last but not least, thank you to Vanessa Owen, her intuition about me, and her personal and professional insight of myself in this incarnation, catalyzed and reinvigorated me as a human being.

January did indeed fly-by, and the Stairwell Gallery showing has ended. The good news is, if you are near, other shows are in the works so, stay tuned. If you are distant, and you fancy a particular piece, a selection of the collection in more shipping friendly unframed, or framed formats, is coming soon! If you just cannot wait, the Persisted Vision Look Book is available now in the online store, which makes for an accessible experience on any coffee table or shelf.
